SHMF International Residency Recipient – Wendy Johnston in China
The $10,000 Sheila Hugh Mackay International Creative Residency is an initiative aimed at the advancement of the careers of professional New Brunswick visual artists. Professional New Brunswick visual artists are eligible for the SHMF International Creative Residency funding once in a lifetime. In the words of the 2025 recipient, Wendy Johnston, currently doing a 3 month residency at the prestigious Taoxichuan Art Center in Jingdezhen, China, “Participating in international residencies is invigorating. Working alongside dedicated artists from all across the world stretches your abilities to think creatively; they inspire you to do your best.”
SHMF funds one residency per year based on the recommendation of an independent jury of art professionals. Completed submissions for 2026 International Creative Residency (including all supporting material) must be postmarked on or before the deadline of February 10, 2026. Late or incomplete applications or nominations will not be accepted. The Foundation cannot accept applications by fax or email.
