SHMF Grant Announcement 2026

Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation is pleased to announce a $25,000 grant to Craft Alliance Atlantic. This grant is in support of the New Brunswick participation at the London, UK, Collect Art Fair and associated Craft Alliance Atlantic educational program from February 27-March 1, 2026.

Craft Alliance Atlantic, under the leadership of Bernard Burton, works to build the careers of Atlantic-based craft artists through exposure to international exhibition, education programs and networking. Burton and his team coordinate a rigorous juried process, opening the doors for Atlantic Canadian craft -based artists to participate in this leading international fair for contemporary craft and design. In addition to the exhibition, participants benefit from a robust educational and mentorship program, designed to strengthen export readiness and market access. Since 2013, SHMF is proud to have worked with Mr. Burton to support New Brunswick artists and arts administrators participate in exceptional career development opportunities.

This grant is dedicated to supporting Maja Padrov, Ralph Simpson, Wendy Johnston and Yalda Bozorg, who are among 11 contemporary makers from across Atlantic Canada, selected to present work in the group exhibition The Power of Objects: Voices of Contemporary Craft, curated by Brazilian-Canadian curator Bruno Vinhas. Additionally, funding was allocated to support the attendance of Christina Foster, Executive Director of Craft NB/Métiers D’Art NB, to deepen her professional capacity as a leader of New Brunswick’s Craft Council.

SHMF congratulates these significant New Brunswick artists and offers its appreciation to Bernard Burton, a tireless advocate for Atlantic Canadian art.
