Elizabeth Grant


Elizabeth Grant of Saint John will be working towards a Masters of Arts in Art Business at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York. The jury noted that Ms. Grant is a gifted painter and critical writer with a deep and thoughtful commitment to art and visual culture. Her commitment to critical discourse answers a recognised need for professional growth and development across the sector.

Biography

From Saint John, New Brunswick, Elizabeth Grant is currently enrolled in the Masters of Arts in Art Business at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, New York.

With a background as an artist and writer, Elizabeth exhibited work and spent time living in Canada, the UK and Germany prior to moving to New York to pursue her studies in the fall of 2016. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from NSCAD University, and in 2013 she graduated with Merit from the Masters of Letters in Fine Art Practice degree at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland.

As a writer on the visual arts, Elizabeth has published reviews and comment pieces on contemporary art for the web blog of Apollo Magazine in the UK, as well as Canadian Art, this is tomorrow and ART PAPERS in the United States.

Represented as a visual artist by the Buckland Merrifield Gallery in Saint John, Elizabeth’s paintings have been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, and in 2016 she received her second grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. In 2015 she was named one of three winners of the Saint John Professional Artists’ Fund Prize, and she was also a finalist for the 2007 RBC Canadian Painting Competition.
