The Board of Directors of SHMF is proud to announce that the Fred Ross Scholarship will be increased to 10,000. This enduring tribute to beloved New Brunswick artist, Fred Ross is part of the foundation’s commitment to arts education and mentorship. Since 2001, SHMF has awarded 27 Fred Ross Scholarships, supporting the creative development of talented New Brunswick youth. On behalf of the Board members, Chairman Dan Steeves notes that the SHMF believes “encouragement of our youth is essential in the process of building the next generation of the arts in New Brunswick.”
The recipient of the 2024 Fred Ross scholarship is Ella Gionet, a graduating senior at Hampton High School. Ms. Gionet was selected for this scholarship on the recommendation of an independent jury of artists and art educators who had high praise for the heightened creativity and impressive technical skill evidenced in her submission portfolio. She will enter Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. Ms. Gionet will be presented with the 2024 Fred Ross scholarship during the opening of a province-wide exhibition of student work at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery on Sunday, May 5th.
All SHMF scholarships are juried by arts professionals. The Board of Directors is grateful to Theresa MacKnight, Cathy Ross and Caroline Walker for their thoughtful and generous contributions to the 2024 SHMF Career Development Program.
