Since 2013, SHMF has offered funding for exceptional mentorship opportunities as part of its career development programming. The latest recipient of the Margaret Woodson Nae Mentorship is New Brunswick documentary filmmaker, Matthew Brown, creator and producer of Studio Tour, a Bell TV1 show that profiled Atlantic Canadian artists and that aired for four seasons in Atlantic Canada. For the past decade, he is best known for his work in filming New Brunswick based artists. Mr. Brown’s many contributions to the documentation and interpretation of visual artists have enriched the national critical discourse.

Throughout his Margaret Woodson Nae Mentorship, Boyd will collaborate with acclaimed filmmaker Nicholas de Pencier of Mercury Films (Toronto), beginning with attendance at the Hot Docs Canadian Documentary Film Festival. Mr. Brown’s continuing interest in capturing the creative spirit of New Brunswick based artists is an exciting investment in the careers of multi-disciplinary visual artists across our province.
