-this forum continues the national conversation Humphrey helped establish in the 1940’s about visual art in Canada. First session is an examination of the existing regional ecosystem of presenting art in Atlantic Canada. The second section is a wide ranging discussion considering the climate of contemporary art in Canada. A panel of well known national leaders will respond to Mr. Landry’s proposition: “After 40 years, the great promise of regionalism to find Canada within our myriad of limited identities has all but failed. Calling someone a regional artist is all but an insult now, suggesting an inability to overcome geographic context. What went so wrong? Is it time to start anew? Or does regionalism still hold the secret of this thing called Canadian art?”
