Juror Biographies
Mario Doucette is an Acadian artist from Moncton New Brunswick. He is a painter, but he also works with video, digital animation, performance and Super8 film. In 2004, after a residency in the French village of Brouage, he created Histoires, a series of works combining drawing and painting that reflects on the effects of colonialism. He has been featured in many exhibitions in several Canadian museums and galleries, notably at Toronto’s ROM where he was a Sobey Art Award finalist in 2008. He recently contributed work to the Oh Canada exhibition in 2012 presented at MASS MoCA (USA) and in 2013 the Galerie de l’UQAM (Montreal) exhibition The Painting Project. He is currently working on a new series of paintings and sculptures called Bagarres. Elizabeth Grant is an artist and freelance writer who recently completed the Masters of Letters in Fine Art Practice at the Glasgow School of Art. A finalist for the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, she has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, and is represented by the Peter Buckland Gallery in Saint John. Currently she has opened a solo exhibition “Berlin-Glascow-Saint John” at Peter Buckland Gallery. Her work can be seen at www.cegrant.com
Theresa MacKnight is an artist and art educator working and teaching in Charlotte County. She studied Fine Arts at Mount Allison University and at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, earning a Bachelor of Fine Art and then a Bachelor of Education from the University of New Brunswick. She brings 20 years of teaching experience at the high school level to this jury process. Macknight has maintained an active art practice for twenty years, exhibiting in both group and solo exhibitions. An active advocate for the arts, she founded the Miramichi Art Core and has worked on provincial curriculum advisory committees.
