Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation, an active supporter of career development for New Brunswick’s visual artists, is happy to announce the winners of its 2018 scholarship and career development programs. We are proud to invest $23,000 in the creative growth of New Brunswick artists. All scholarships and residencies are based on the adjudication and recommendation of independent professional jury panels.
Anna Torma, of Baie Verte, has won the 2018 $10,000 Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation International Residency. An internationally respected artist, Ms. Torma will be working in Paris, France and Cipressa, Italy in preparation for an upcoming solo exhibition at the Textile Museum of Canada in 2020. A Strathbutler artist and Lt. Governor’s Award winner, Ms. Torma continues to present a complex contemporary narrative through luminous tapestries.
Amy Swim of Florenceville–Bristol has been selected to receive the $8000.00 Fred Ross Scholarship. After graduating from Carleton North High School in June, Ms. Swim will enter the Foundation program at New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.
The $5000 Advanced Studies Scholarship has been awarded to Jessica Arseneau of St. Laurent, who is pursuing a Masters in Museum Studies and Practice of the Arts (concentration in Museum Studies) at the University of Quebec in Outaouais .
