SHMF is pleased to recognise the accomplishments of jeweller, Laura Boudreau, the highest-ranking student in Advanced Studio Practice certificate program at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. Ms. Boudreau received the inaugural Brigitte Clavette Merit Award at a small ceremony at the college hosted by Carrie Nolan, Dean of NBCCD.

SHMF established this annual $2000 award at NBCCD as a tribute to Ms. Clavette and to mark her retirement as long time studio head of the Jewellery and Metal Arts program. Clavette has inspired generations of artists, both as a maker and an educator.  Clavette, a Strathbutler artist, received the Governor General’s Award, Canada’s highest award for excellence in the visual arts in 2022.

Ms. Boudreau, whose current body of work is inspired by the traditional fencing of Fredericton’s Officers’ Square credits Clavette as a mentor. Clavette praised Ms. Boudreau for excellence in design and production.
