SHMF is committed to assisting artists reach their creative potential at many stages of their career development, through a diverse Career Development Program. The foundation is delighted to announce the awarding of two scholarships, based on the recommendations of independent jury panels.
The 2023 Sheila Mackay Advanced Studies Scholarship is awarded to a prominent member of the New Brunswick arts community, Jean Rooney, current Head of Studio of Graduate Studies at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. Ms. Rooney is a PhD candidate at Concordia University focused on Art Education. In the words of nominator, Dr. Lorrie Blair, professor of Art Education at Concordia University, Ms. Rooney is a dynamic, creative, resourceful scholar and educator with a demonstrated studio production and an impressive teaching trajectory. With appreciation and respect, the Board of Directors is happy to grant this $5000 scholarship to an esteemed leader in the New Brunswick community.
The 2023 Fred Ross Scholarship is awarded to Audrey Anne Pinnock of Stanley Consolidated High School. Ms. Pinnock, a student leader throughout high school, will enter Toronto Metropolitan University (Ryerson) in September to focus on Film Studies. This four-year scholarship, valued at $ 8000, is a lasting tribute to the New Brunswick artist, Fred Ross.
