The Board of Directors is delighted to announce the creation of the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation Cultural Connector Award at the Université de Moncton. This $2000 prize will recognise a student who has made a meritorious contribution to the cultural community through leadership in such areas as creation, programming, curation, critical discourse, exhibition, performance, appreciation for the power of visual art, volunteerism, mentorship, or cultural promotion.
Chairman, Dan Steeves of the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation noted that this new award is inspired by the example of Madame Louise Imbeault, whose work with the foundation, the New Brunswick Museum and the Université de Moncton made a lasting impact on the province. ”Throughout her 8-year tenure as chair of SHMF, she was a champion for leadership in the arts. This award will continue her legacy of encouraging leadership, innovation and community engagement. Together with all members of the foundation, we salute Madame Imbeault on her elevation to the position of Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick.”
The President and Vice Chancellor of the Université de Moncton, Dr. Denis Prud’homme stated “The Université de Moncton would like to express its appreciation to the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation for establishing this award, which aligns with our mission to develop creative and committed individuals. It also serves as a meaningful tribute to our former chancellor, Louise Imbeault, a distinguished ambassador for our university.”
Peter Laroque, Head of Humanities at the New Brunswick Museum congratulated the foundation for this on this initiative adding his appreciation for the role Madame Imbeault has played in advancing the arts “Guided by a genuine regard for the ideas and experiences of others, Mme Louise Imbeault possesses a quiet determination that encourages people to work together.”
The inaugural award will be given in the spring of 2025. Please consult the university for further details.
