The scholarship was created in 2001 to support young artists in the pursuit of excellence. Named for renowned Saint John painter, Fred Ross, this scholarship pays tribute to his remarkable professional career and to his life-long commitment to fostering young artists.
The Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation’s continued work in developing this scholarship is a mark of respect for both Mr. Ross and the burgeoning talents of New Brunswick youth. This is a 4 year renewable scholarship. An initial payment of $2000 will be awarded on entrance to a recognized institution.
It will be renewed annually based on demonstration of successful completion of established university standards in first, second and third year of study.

Fred Ross’s Memory Honored
SHMF marks the 20th anniversary of the Fred Ross Scholarship by granting 2 Memorial Bursaries. These bursaries are a mark of respect for Mr. Ross, whose encouragement to aspiring young artists was the initial inspiration of the SHMF’s Career Development Program. Congratulations to Jonah Dysart and Lydia Paterson who were selected by an independent jury to be the recipients of these 2020 Fred Ross Memorial Bursaries.
