Results of SHMF International Creative Residency Grants Announced by Artsnb

The Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation is proud to have partnered with the New Brunswick Arts Board (artsnb) on a pilot artist in international residence project for 2015. Grants totally $10,000 were awarded on the recommendation of a jury of professional artists to fund residencies in Japan, Ireland and Switzerland. Congratulations to the three recipients, Julie Forgues, Leah Garnett, and Mathieu Léger.

“It’s a privilege to be partnering with Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation on a pilot venture for the first time,” said Akoulina Connell, Executive Director of artsnb, “it’s wonderful to help facilitate the Foundation’s wish to open international opportunities for visual artists from New Brunswick.

Louise Imbeault, chair of SHMF noted that “This project stems from a public consultation process held by the foundation. In sponsoring the province-wide forum “A Call to Create,” the board of directors wished to provide the arts community with an opportunity to identify contemporary needs in the visual arts on New Brunswick. We are confident these residencies will promote excellence in art practice”

“It has been a pleasure working with artsnb in the shaping of this program,“ said Kathryn McCarroll, Executive Director of the foundation, expressing gratitude to Akolina Connell and Vanessa Moeller for their assistance in the structuring of this pilot project.
