SHMF Director Brigitte Clavette wins national acclaim

With great joy, the Board of Directors of the SHMF join the country in celebrating Brigitte Clavette, the 2022 recipient of Canada’s foremost distinction for excellence in Visual and Media Arts: the Saidye Bronfman Award.   Administered by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Governor General’s Awards celebrate Canada’s vibrant arts community and recognize remarkable careers.  This award is a celebration of Clavette’s remarkable artistic achievements and her outstanding contribution to contemporary visual arts.

Brigitte Clavette is a creative tour de force whose contributions as an artist, educator, mentor, curator, arts activist and community leader have been recognised throughout her career. First and foremost she is a gifted artist.  She has been Studio Head of Jewellery and Metal Arts at New Brunswick College of Craft and Design from 1985 until her retirement in 2019.   She has influenced generations of young artists and is revered for her professional and personal influence in their lives. Clavette became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2000, won the Excellence Award for Craft from the Province of New Brunswick in 2002. In 2006, she was awarded the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation Strathbutler Award for both creative excellence and significant contribution to New Brunswick. Clavette exhibits nationally and internationally and is deeply committed to serving the artistic community locally, regionally and nationally in a board spectrum of activities. In 2017, Clavette was asked to join the Board of Directors of the SHMF and continues to inspire the foundation in its serve to the arts community.
