New Paintings by 2009 Strathbutler Artist, David Umholtz, at Peter Buckland Gallery
Aclaimed artist, David Umholtz, has exhibited his work nationally and internationally for over forty years. With this exhibition of paintings, Umholtz, continues to explore a sense of place. Referencing maps/charts, none completely accurate, yet often rooted in actual locations, the artist creates wonderfully abstract paintings that evoke the ever-shifting boundaries between land and water. With no pretense to cartographic accuracy, these works, nevertheless, remind us that “real” mapping at its best is an abstraction, symbolic of our need to make sense of our place. David Umholtz was awarded the Stratbutler Prize in 2009.
Exhibit: October 12 – November 5, 2012
Reception: Friday, October 12, 5 – 7 pm
