I-Chun Jenkins Chosen for 2018 Nel Oudemans Award

After a careful examination of the diverse portfolios of the many gifted emerging artisans nominated, the jury unanimously named I-Chun Jenkins as the 2018 recipient of the Nel Oudemans Award. The jurors were impressed by the delicacy and beauty of the work, the technical mastery of the artist, and her sensitivity to environmental themes. Ms. Jenkins has not only mastered traditional weaving techniques, but has pushed them to a new creative level of expression.

As characterized by nominators Peter Powning and Susan Vida Judah, Ms. Jenkins’s work has become sculptural and illustrates her ability to see beyond the obvious. I-Chun Jenkins is a talented emerging artist whose potential is exciting.

Ms. Jenkins received the award on June 19th at the 2018 SHMF honours reception at Shadow Lawn in Rothesay.
